Well, we've got a little game for you. Back inwhen the Pro Tour was just beginning, there were a variety of ways to get invited. For the first one, players called a number.
For the second, one of the ways was a puzzle in The Duelist where readers were challenged to match up sideboards with Worlds Top 8 players. Give it a trybut keep in mind that you're about twelve years too late to qualify for the Pro Tour this way. Here's what we were able to piece together from various sources, including a post on Usenet from Henry Stern Still wondering what was in everyone's deck? And here are the three decks we're sure of! Finals started on Sunday at am. Magic was still in its infancy and all the powerful cards were widely available to use.
Certain powerful cards like Black Lotus were restricted to one copy in each deck. By the finals, Zak Dolan was the only American remaining in a field of European players. Lestree was the man to beat and Dolan later admitted to being nervous about facing him. Dolan's deck was heavily reliant on blue and ran all five of the Moxen.
Unlike most of his opponents Dolan decided to only run a single copy of many cards. His deck was designed to slowly gain control of the match before killing an opponent through damage or his opponent conceding. Lestree's deck planned to win before his opponent could react, through fast damage. Lestree won the first game through attacking with a Whirling Dervishburn spells, and then finally a "Channel-ball" for ten damage. Dolan changed many of his cards in the sideboard while Lestree made no changes.
Final life scores - Dolan: 0, Bertrand: The second game was a long one, lasting over 20 turns. Dolan finally managed to do 20 damage in only two turns via Serra AngelRecalland Vesuvan Doppelganger. Final life scores - Dolan: 12, Bertrand: 0.Referer header not validated
For the final game, Dolan drew a great hand with both Power Sink and Mana Draintwo cards that had helped beat Bertrand the previous game. Lestree was furious and called over the judges to confirm that Dolan's deck was fully legal.
Dolan constantly gained life each turn from his Ivory Tower while Lestree was slowly dying from Dolan's Karma.Brxlz instructions
To Bertrand's amusement Dolan countered his Argothian Pixies with Mana Drain and accidently took 2 points of damage from mana burn. However, Dolan had 37 life by this stage, so it hardly mattered. Dolan then played Stasis at which point Bertrand realised Karma would soon kill him and conceded the game.
Final life scores - Dolan: 35, Bertrand: Dolan won a trophy, a poker deck with backs like Magic cards, and booster packs from out-of-print expansions. The collectible card game Magic: The Gathering published nine core sets from —, also referred to as basic sets and base sets.
These sets consisted entirely of reprints, usually focusing on staple cards Wizards of the Coast felt should always be available. These cards were generally simpler than cards in expansion sets, omitting multicolored cards, and used only the original abilities and keywords of Magic such as FlyingTrample and Haste.
As Magic grew, the base sets were considered descendants of the original Limited Editionand shaped the default setting and feel of Magic. In contrast, Magic "expansion sets" usually chose a particular theme, such as artifacts for Antiquities. All cards were given a white border to mark them as reprints, with a few exceptions Tenth Editionfoil cards in Seventh - Ninth Editions.
From Fourth Edition in onward, a new base set would come out once per two years in the spring or early summer; for tournament play, that set would be legal for two years in the Standard format until the next core set replaced it. Early in the history of Magicthe sets sold out nearly instantaneously, and supplying the game's growing fan base proved tricky.
The earliest base sets— UnlimitedRevisedand Fourth Edition —helped provide the first experience with Magic for many players in areas where Magic had never been sold before, enabling them to catch up on the base game with cards that, while technically reprints, had never been available to them before.
As the market became saturated, the base sets took on a changed role; they began to be marketed as the entry point for new Magic players, with less interest expected from dedicated Magic players who likely owned many of the cards already. Seventh Editionreleased inwas sold both as a "Basic" and an "Advanced" product, with the expansion sets of the time marked as "Expert. However, sales were disappointing, an alarming problem for Wizards, as some entry point for newer players was required to keep Magic alive.
According to Wizards of the Coast, the previous core sets had "been completely marginalized by the enfranchised player base", and change was required to make the Core Sets of interest to players of all skill levels once more.
It was released on December 1,after Beta had sold out as quickly as Alpha had; this time the run was 40 million cards, the largest yet. Unlimited Edition contains exactly the same cards as Limited Edition Betaincluding the Power Nine cards, and the three sets are usually considered as a single set.
Unlimited cards have white borders rather than black, however. This precedent that white borders implied a reprint was honored until the release of Tenth Editionwhich returned to black borders.
Unlimited was sold in starter packs of 60 cards and booster packs of 15 cards.
The "Unlimited Edition" label appears on the booster boxes, decks, and booster packs. The picture frame of Unlimited cards has a beveled edge which Revised cards have not. Revised Edition also simply known as Revised was the sixth set and third core set released for Magic: The Gathering.
Like previous core sets, it had no expansion symbol. Revised Edition cards are white-bordered and generally known for their washed-out look. The set was released in April and contained cards. It was the first base set to contain cards from black-bordered sets other than Alpha and Beta.Hand painting for kids
Printing of Revised began in early April and continued until Aprilwhen Fourth Edition was announced. It is estimated that about million cards of the set were produced, which fully eliminated the distribution problems of earlier sets.
The cards of Revised like the cards of the preceding Unlimited Edition all had white borders, no expansion symbol, and the artist credit at the bottom left. However, the cards were far paler than their Unlimited counterparts, and the three-dimensional beveling of the cards was cropped out.A complete list of the top Standard tier 1 decks updated to April For more info you can check the Banned and Restricted Cards on wizards site.

And most players seem to take it that way, building the top decks of the meta to play in all modes in order to have that extra edge over their opponents. For me, playing those decks is rewarding, but after a while you can get tired of them as they can feel grindy and almost too consistent.
This deck focuses on going wide and going big. This is achieved by pumping out lots of small creatures that help you put extra lands on the battlefield or help you draw extra cards through various effects. Sometimes, you just want to play a few quick games in MTG Arena, with no special mental strain involved. Mono White Life-gain is exactly the deck for such occasions. This deck is a bit older, from before the standard set rotation in autumn Once you get all the pieces of the puzzle on the ground it starts rolling hard, drawing you cards and putting creatures on the board left and right.
Have fun with the Elfball deck! This is a combo deck like no other. It uses Prime Speaker Vannifar to search your deck for creatures that untap it Corridor Monitor and Hyrax Tower Scout almost endlessly, while making copies of those creatures with Nightmare Shepherd. Give it a go!
Theros: Beyond Death brought with it a fresh new reprint of a very famous card: Gray Merchant of Asphodel. This is a very special deck that revolves around cancelling enter the battlefield effects. Hushbringer is the central card of this deck, but take it out and it is basically a life-gain deck with Ajani Pridemates and other Life-Gain synergies. The best part of this deck is the combination of Hushbringer and Clackbridge Troll. Try it out!
This deck is pure evil. They will be stuck top-decking for the rest of the game while you play out your heinous strategy. While most their cards end up in the graveyard, you can bring them back with the help of Command the Dreadhorde.
I only recently came upon this deck and it blew me away with how fun and easy it is to play. I always loved to play big creatures in magic and this finally fulfilled my dream of becoming a creature tamer. The Great Henge is also a great addition to these kinds of decks as it allows you to draw more cards, which is often a problem with creature decks. This was my favourite deck when Guilds of Ravnica came out. It faded out of the meta quickly with the additions of new sets to the game, but now it is making a powerful resurgence.
The playstyle is still the same, but the results are quite more explosive. Skip to main content. Level up. Earn rewards. Your XP: 0. As if it is was not badass enough he topped it by riffle shuffling his deck: P9 and dual lands included: Eventually we proceeded to play the final like it's France vs USA: Two typical ways to finish the game for Zak Dolan's deck: Two Serra angels beating The addition of Serendib Efreet instead of the Birds of Paradise makes it so much more efficient that they probably should have been maindeck.
The maindeck Birds remain a mystery to us: Some more games: And then we switched deck at this point the score was for Bertrand Lestree's creation. And it was my turn to WIN!

Sometimes you can get an Angel out and clone it for a victory but it is a rare occurence. The win condition seems to be Library of Alexandria. If you read the report you will see that having the Library in starting hand is a HUGE advantage.
